Important Sabarimala Guidance

Please read these instructions before your pilgrimage.

VIRTUAL-Q PILGRIMS

Pilgrims who have already booked through Virtual-Q may note that:

  • If you cancel your visit to Sabarimala, please cancel your online booking also. This helps another pilgrim use the slot for darshan and helps future bookings to be processed smoothly.
  • Throwing away clothes and other belongings into the Holy River Pamba is not conventional and has no ritualistic basis.
  • Avoid plastic items as part of your irumudikettu wherever possible.
  • Report at the Police verification counter on time.
  • The temple does not charge for online or spot booking. If anyone is illegally charging for online or real-time booking, report it to the Police or Travancore Devaswom Vigilance.
INSTRUCTIONS FROM SABARIMALA DEVASWOM THANTRI

Guidance on the Irumudikettu

  • Many items brought by Ayyappa devotees in the Irumudikettu are unnecessary, including plastic covers. Devotees are advised to avoid unnecessary items from the Holy Irumudikettu.
  • As Sabarimala Temple is part of the Periyar Tiger Reserve, plastic use is strictly prohibited in the area. Plastic items in the Irumudikettu may cause environmental problems in Sabarimala and surrounding areas.
  • Front portion of Irumudikettu (to be offered at Sabarimala): dry rice, ghee-filled coconut, jaggery, kadalipazham, betel leaf, arecanut and kaaniponnu. Items such as incense sticks, camphor and rose water may be avoided.
  • Back portion of Irumudikettu: rice should be brought only in a very small quantity and should be offered at Sabarimala.

SABARIMALA

History of Sabarimala

Sabarimala is a major Ayyappa pilgrimage centre in Kerala. Devotees traditionally observe a period of austerity and undertake the pilgrimage toward the hill shrine through the forest landscape. Customs, access arrangements and seasonal programmes can change, so current official instructions should always be checked.
